305 - Moinho do Olival

The Quinta do Moinho do Olival is located right on top of a mountain range Serra d'Arrábida with a breathtaking view on the surrounding landscape. To the north, you can see the river Tejo with its two gigantic bridges leading to Lisbon; the entire city of Lisbon from Cascais and Estoril to the Expo area on the east; and to the west you can see the mountains of Sintra with the former summer residence of the Portuguese kings, the world famous Palácio da Pena.

In the southern direction, there is a view on the fertile valley Vale de Barris, as well as several mountain ranges of Serra d'Arrábida. To the south west, one can see the historic little town Palmela and its 15th century castle. 5 km south of Palmela, you can even see the port town Sétubal, where the ferry boat to Troia departs from. To describe the location of this estate as fantastic is really an understatement.

There is a 2 km long field track, leading from Palmela to Quinta do Moinho do Olival. The estate is completely isolated. Besides two other windmills, which stand a few hundred metres further west, one is completely alone on the whole mountain top. Now and then, a few mountain bikers or hikers pass by. The Serra d'Arrábida is known for its outstanding qualities as hiking area and a challenging training area for mountain bikers.

There is a completely intact windmill on the estate, which is still in perfect working order and hence grinds flour until today. The friendly owners live in Cascais and speak French very well, apart from Portuguese. On request, they will happily show their guests how the windmill works. Otherwise, the guests do not have any access to the mill.

For rent there is a comfortable traditional stone house, ideal for a family with 1-2 children. Furthermore, a large fenced garden is available to the guests.

- a kitchen (approx. 8 sq.m.) with an electric stove, a a fridge, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster

On the top floor:
- a bedroom (approx. 20 sq.m.) with a double bed (140 x 190 cm), a sat TV and a spacious built-in wardrobe
- a passage room (approx. 10 sq.m.) with a sofa bed
- a toilet (approx. 5 sq.m.)

The price is calculated as the total price for the number of persons indicated above and includes the costs of electricity, gas, water, final cleaning, bed linen and towels. Possible heating costs are charged extra on departure. The price is given for a stay of minimum 7 nights or more. Arrivals are possible at any day of the week. Earliest arrival time: 4 pm. Latest departure time: 12 am. Families with babies and children are particularly warmly welcome.
