Casa dos Chãos is a traditional portuguese house with over 100 years of existence, restored with good taste and creativity and superbly located at the heart of northern Portugal. You will be warmly welcomed here, and you will get full information of what to see and do in the surrounding area.

The Casa dos Chãos is located in the village of Santa Senhorinha, near Cabeceiras de Basto, just 4 km off motorway A7. Cabeceiras de Basto lies between the Minho and Trás-os-Montes provinces, in the Tâmega valley and on the foot of the Cabreira and Alvão mountain ranges. In the vicinity you will discover delightful views, some monuments, preserved mountain villages and a vigorous local cuisine accompanied by the refreshing Basto wines.

Bathing in rivers, fishing, horse riding, hiking, minigolf and other activities are available nearby. A short drive will take you to open air swimming pools and facilities for radical sports, such as canoeing and sliding along the highest and fastest cable in Europe. In summer, the surrounding villages celebrate their popular festivities, the most renowned being St. Miguels in Cabeceiras, from the 20th to the 30th of September.

The house is remarkably well located at the heart of northern Portugal. Less than an hours drive will take you to three World Heritage sites (the historic centres of Porto and Guimarães, and the Douro valley vineyards), the Peneda-Gerês national park, the monumental towns of Braga, Chaves and Amarante, etc.

The Spanish border is within easy reach by road, too. In the garden you will find a tiny pool, a wide terrace, lawns, a ping-pong table and a playground for children, among other amenities. The views are superb over the nearby valley and the surrounding hills where snow often falls in the winter.

The house is prepared to accommodate a family or group of friends of up to six people. We have three double bedrooms, WC, a spacious living-room with TV, and a fully equipped kitchenette. There is central heating everywhere and a heating stove in the living-room. Barbecue is also available, and you can use an outdoor kitchen and even cook in a traditional ceramic oven.

The owners live in a separate part of the house, ensuring full privacy and complete tranquility to all guests. You will be warmly welcomed, and you will get full information of what to see and do in the surrounding area. Meals (if ordered in advance) and local delicacies can also be provided. We speak several languages.

Situated both next to the coastal plains and close to the rugged but charming inland highlands, favored by a moderate climate and easily accessible from all directions, the Casa dos Chãos is perfect for active but relaxing holidays, conciliating tranquility with culture, outdoor activities and contact with the most authentic Portugal.
