Portugal Holiday Homes Region Algarve
| A lot of people automatically associate holidays in Portugal with the idea of going to Algarve. It is not without a reason that the southern part of the Portuguese coast has become a magnet for tourists. The region meets all necessary requirements for a happy seaside holiday. Enjoy this part of the coast with its fantastic golden sandy beaches hidden between rocks and deep red steep cliffs that wind and water have turned into bizarre shapes. |

The clean and moderately warm waters of the Atlantic not only encourage you to bathe but also to try different water sports. There are numerous holiday resorts with golf and tennis courts, as well as many other tourist attractions, such as pools, water slides, yacht ports, and casinos. Unfortunately, this does not have much to do with the true essence of Portugal and its unique culture. Lagos (photo on the left), the main city of West Algarve, is located in the mouth of the river Rio Alvos. |
| Although Lagos has been completely taken over by tourists, it has managed to remain a nice town where you can feel comfortable. This is mainly because of the old town centre with streets full of nooks and crannies, low houses, and exceptionally beautiful beaches below the impressive cliffs of Ponta da Piedade. During the high season those who wish to get away from tourist crowds can reach the west coast in only 20 minutes and find miles of deserted beaches. |

In the East Algarve, close to the Spanish border, the beautiful and romantic small town of Tavira is located. The town boasts its impressive architecture and pretty fishing boats at the banks of the river Gilão, which flows right through the middle of the town.
The broad sandy beach of Manta Rota and the beautiful bathing island near Tavira stand in contrast with the otherwise typical rocky coast of the Algarve region. |

North of the coast, in the countryside surrounded by mountains, the region is green and fruitful. Fig trees, orange trees and blooming almond trees animate the landscape and give it an attractive array of colours even in the winter months. And still you can find typical villages that have retained their centuries old traditions. The small town of Monchique, which is located high amidst the untouched nature of the mountains Serra de Monchique, is particularly worth a visit. |

On the west coast of Algarve, the district town Aljezur is located in a fertile valley approximately 8 kilometres from the sea. The small river Ribeira da Cerca flows through the heart of the town. A beautiful medieval castle that was recaptured from the Moors in 1249 belongs to the old town located up on a hill. The ascent alone is a worthwhile trip as you have an impressive view on the countryside. As opposed to the Algarve south coast, there is not much tourism in this area. |
