Portugal holiday homes destination West Algarve - Odeceixe

Odeceixe – on the border between Algarve and Alentejo

From Sao Teotónio (coming from the south) after 10 km you cross over a bridge. After that you can turn in the direction of Odeceixe. If you wish to get to the beach, first of all drive through the village past the village square, the meeting point of both tourists and local people. The road follows about 4 km down the valley of the Seixe River and ends with the sea. Uniquely beautifully located under a cliff, there is a clear, exceptionally broad sandy beach that drags into the valley. Vehicles can be parked on the cliff plateau. The stairs lead you down to the beach. The second sandy strip of the coast spreads out on the north bank of the river, where some years ago the Mecca of wild campers, a spot famous among hippies and freaks, was located. In the meantime, this scene has turned itself into a settlement, where you can meet individualists from all over the world. The place was at that time cleared by the police. By now, restaurants, cafés and a public toilet belong to the main beach. The third smaller beach in the south, Praia das Adegas, is accessible via a cliff path. This is also a nudist area. The beaches are especially charming at low tide because when the sea goes up there is not much space left. There is a big annual fair on the first Sunday of September.
