Atalaia / Porto das Barcas
Atalaia is a typical Portuguese village that is actually only coincidentally located directly by the Atlantic. The picture of the settlement is shaped by the church in the centre, while the rest of the village gradually subsides in the direction of the beach. The beach itself looks more or less the same as when nature made it. There is absolutely no tourism in Atalaia.
There are some small grocery shops, a drogery, several little cafés and restaurants and even one cash machine(!). All other facilities can be found in the district town of Lourinha, only 2 km away, where there are large supermarkets, banks, a post office, a hospital, a chemist's etc.
